Advisory Council Volunteers Needed
Signal Hill’s Advisory Council is looking for Volunteers for the 2009-2011 term. We have several openings, one in the Signal Hill neighborhood, one in the Davis Ford corridor, one in the Hunter’s Ridge area and one At-large member from any neighborhood in our boundary.

The Advisory Council is a group of community and staff members who are representative of Signal Hill’s neighborhoods, school grade levels and specialties. The Council assists in communicating ideas and suggestions from within our community, as well as building a positive student – centered school climate. The council serves as an advisory board for the school administration. Being a member is a great way to give back to the school and community and learn more about PWCPS operations. Advisory meets once a month and members serve a two –year term. The Signal Hill boundary area has been divided in to five regions with a representative from each and an At– large member. Representatives are selected by lottery from the boundaries in each area. All names not selected are placed in one lottery for the At-large position. Currently we have two returning council members, Suzette McCarthy from Occoquan Forest and Sarah Ruhl from Roseberry. Cindy Cariens also acts as the PTA representative.

If you are interested in serving on the Advisory Council, please request a form or send in the information below and send it to the Principal, Cynthia Wrenn by October 30th, 2009. If you would like more information about the Advisory Council, please feel free to contact the school’s office at 703-530-7541.

Parent Accounts for School Fusion
NEW PARENT ACCOUNTS FOR SCHOOL FUSION!  (DETAILED instructions to log in follow at the bottom of the announcements page.)

This year a new process has been implemented to centralize the PWCS schools’ online system allowing parents to have one user account for their school Web site log in and the Edulink Intouch log in. To obtain your user account follow the steps below:
  • All parents must obtain an authorization letter in person at your child’s school in order to log in to your school’s Web site or to log in to Edulink Intouch.  Please note the dates below when these letters will be available.
  • This year, there is a new process to log into Edulink Intouch to view student grades or emergency information. Follow the steps below:
  • On Back to School Nights (September 22 and 23) go to your child’s school to receive a printed authorization letter which will have a student “passcode” that you will need when you register on your school’s Web site. Bring a photo ID. If you have children in more than one school, please go to each school in person.

  • After receiving the letter, go to one of your children’s school Web sites and register by clicking on the left button “New User Registration.”  You only have to register once at one school Web site, even if you have children at more than one school.

  • Parents who are also PWCS school staff members do not have to register as a “New User” on SchoolFusion. They will simply log on to their school Web site as usual, click on “My Family” and add the student passcodes on that menu.

  • Fill out the online registration form and enter your student’s ID number and “passcode” for each of your children in PWCS schools. If you have children in more than one school, you can enter all children’s passcodes from one Web site. Also, you can add more children at a later time by clicking on your “My family” icon after logging into a school Web site.

  • You can use the same log in user name and password for all Web sites where your children attend school.

  • You can use the same school Web site log in and password to log into Edulink Intouch as well.
After you have registered as a “New User” on the Web site, you will be able to log in to Edulink Intouch (also a button on the left of your school’s Web site) and view your student’s information. However please wait 48 hours before logging into Edulink Intouch since there is a time delay to transfer login information to the Intouch system.

Your Edulink Intouch login user name and password will be the same as your school Web site log in.
Signal Hill is Celebrating 10 Years of Excellence!
Signal Hill Elementary was opened in 2000 as a replacement school for Parkside Elementary School . Parkside Elementary originally shared the building where Parkside Middle School now fully resides. We are named for nearby Signal Hill, a Confederate observation post. Civil War soldiers posted there warned of the Union effort to turn the flank of the Southern position during the initial stages of the First Battle of Manassas. Because of the signals used it is cited as the first use of telecommunication in a battle. We serve a diverse and involved community.  Signal Hill is a French foreign language specialty school with partner schools in Burundi, Dallas, and China.

For Parents Regarding School Fusion Logins
Detailed Information About School Web Site (SchoolFusion)
and Edulink Intouch Online User Accounts and Features for Elementary School Parents

Beginning this year, all PWCS parents have the opportunity to sign up for SchoolFusion and Edulink InTouch Online accounts. These two online accounts provide parents with great home/school communication tools. By signing up for a single SchoolFusion account, parents will have access to all of their children’s school information no matter what PWC school they attend. With this account, parents will be able to view a personal calendar with all of their children’s school events and homework assignments. They will be able to receive emails from the school and teachers. Signing up for a SchoolFusion account gives parents an Edulink Intouch Online account with the same user name and password. Using Edulink InTouch Online, parents can view and edit their children’s information and view their children’s class grades (3rd-12th graders only). We encourage all parents to sign up for a log in account this fall, which will remain active as long as the students remain in PWCS schools. You will not have to go into schools to pick up a passcode letter in following years.

Creating Your SchoolFusion Account

  1. Before creating a SchoolFusion account on your school’s Web site you will need to pick up a letter from each of your children’s schools with your child’s PWCS permanent ID number and “passcode”. This can be obtained at school on an announced date or in the school’s office when you visit with a photo ID.

  2. Using any Internet accessible computer, go to your school’s website.

  3. Click on the left-side link called New User Registration.

  4. Complete the online registration form. Fill in information for all of your children. Be sure to include a valid email address where you would like to receive school emails.

Click at the bottom of the form to register.  Please create only ONE user name and password for yourself that includes ALL of your children.  If you have more than 4 students in PW schools or would like to add other children later, see step 4 in the “Using Your School Fusion Account” section below. The user name must be 4-12 characters. The password must be 8-12 characters

    Please note that none of the following characters can be used: ‘ ~ ! , # $ % ^ & * ( ) - + = < > ; : \ “ [space].
  1. After you have clicked “Click Here to Register”, you will be asked to change your password. Please change you password. It must contain 8-12 character. (This is a system process that we are not able to change at this time.)

  2. After you have changed your password, you will see a link at the top asking you to verify your email address. Please click on the link. Please click to validate your email address. You will be sent an email to verify that we have the correct email address in our system.

  3. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Web manager at your school.

  4. You are creating a secure parent account. Please do not share it with anyone including your child. If you have children at more than one Prince William school, you may use your same user name and password at any of the schools’ sites.

What you can do after logging into your school Web site:

  1. Go to your school Web site (you can do this from any site where your children attend school).
  2. Log in on the left side of the screen using the user name and password you created.

  6. Please note that your school will be processing the changes daily. Changes will not be reflected in InTouch Online until 24 hours after the changes have been processed. If you do not see you updates reflected after 2-3 days, please contact the school office.
  7. The Mail Center, Message Center, and the Calendar will not be available in Edulink Intouch since these functions are part of the SchoolFusion website.
  8. For some participating elementary schools (not all elementary schools), early in the school year, a Gradebook icon will appear on the home screen. Parents in participating schools may click on this icon to view their children’s current class grades.
