Have a great Summer!

So, here it is, the last day of the kindergarten school year. Please continue to reinforce reading, writing, and basic math skills over the summer if you have the opportunity and time. This will make the transition to first grade easier for your child. Over the summer; Raz-kids, IXL, and Dreambox will continue to be available for all students to use.

Food Service: If you are interested in free breakfast and lunch from PWCS, our location is at Parkside Middle School from 9:00 am-11:00 am. Parkside will continue their free food service all summer. This service is available to any child up to the age of 18.

School Supplies: The school has arranged another day for you to pick up your child's supplies that were left at school. The last scheduled day for pick up is Tuesday, June 16th from 4pm-6pm.

Report Cards: Report cards were e-mailed today (Friday, June 12th).

As always, thank you for all that you do to support our students. Have a wonderful summer!

Activities for Home:

Here are some suggestions that are meaningful and things that are simple to do that don't require technology.

READ- By far the most important (academic) thing to do each day.  Read books for fun, read nonfiction books about things your child is interested in, start a chapter book together, read instructions, read recipes, bring a blanket outside and read under a tree, build a fort and read with a flashlight ...just read anything together.  Take the time and just be together.

Create- Create things with Legos, blocks, play dough, cardboard boxes, any materials you have around the house.  Make a leprechaun trap, build a boat for a book character, construct houses and buildings.  Let their imagination be BIG.  You will be amazed at what their minds will think up on their own.

PLAY-Play games, board games; such as Zingo, Chutes and Ladders, Guess Who, Bingo; and card games like Uno, concentration,  War, Spot It, Hearts.  Your child will have much fun playing these games while learning.

GO OUTSIDE- Go to your backyard, take a hike on a trail that is empty.  Be in nature together, talk about what you see, collect treasures like pine cones.  Take a "five senses walk" and look up at the clouds, notice the changes in seasons.  Take out the sidewalk chalk, count things you see  Being outside is such a wonderful booster for kids.

Important Information:

Daily Folder: This folder will come home every day. Inside the folder will be a zipper pouch to place all lunch money. Also in the folder will be any notes or newsletters from the school and the team. It is important that the folder returns to school every day. This is a great tool for communication between parent and teacher.

Snack: We will be having a short snack time each day. Please send a healthy snack separate from your child’s lunchbox. Water bottles or containers are also a great item for your child to have in the classroom. Please label all water bottles. Please no glass containers or juice.

Birthdays: Birthdays are very exciting in kindergarten! We do have food allergies in our classes so please be careful when sending in special treats to share. A great alternative is vegetables, fruit, or goodie bags. Thank you for your understanding. All birthday food items may only be shared during our lunch time.

Reading at Home:

Make sure to read with your child every night at home for 20 minutes to help promote their reading skills. Raz-Kids is a great program to help motivate the students to read.
