NEW THIS YEAR
PWCS is now a Single Stream Recycler! That means that mixed paper, metal and plastics can all go in the same recycling bin. Now we can recycle even more. Thank you Dr. Walts and staff for this wonderful opportunity.
Mrs. Burke has started recycling juice pouches, potato chip bags, candy wrappers, glue bottles and sticks, tape dispensers and tape cores. Way to go!
Operation Green Sneaks was a success! We recycled 284 shoes.
Signal Hill was recently invited to the Superintendents Business Breakfast as a Prince William County Education Foundation Innovative Grants Recipient. Many county employees and local business leaders commented on Signal Hill's dedicated environmental efforts.

Earth Week 2009
Earth Week was a wonderful success. We powered down, had a paperless day and watched Disney’s new School House Rock Earth Edition. The students and staff wrote to Governor Kaine telling him how we protect the earth every day and the posters were sent to his office in
Home Depot donated a flowering crab apple tree for our
Wal-Mart has pledged to donate plants to our garden.

Signal Hill Green Team has won a grant from Prince William Education Foundation entitled, "Green Team: Where Everyday is Earth Day". With the grant funds The Green Team has purchased recycling bins for every classroom and office. The most exciting part of the grant is the new ecology section of books in the library.
